Scholar Mentoring Dinner 2020

Our first scholar dinner for this year was held on Wednesday, January 15th
at Kiki's Greek restaurant in New York City. Board members; Diana Diaz Torres and Fanny Mera, met with scholars, Jennifer Van and Faria Islam for a quiet evening of sharing experiences, advice and listening to the wonderful aspirations of these two beautiful young ladies.

a success second semester for this academic year. For Jennifer, this will be her final semester as an undergraduate student. Best of luck to Faria on getting half way through undergraduate, finishing her second semester as a sophomore.

Celebrating Scholar Alum/Board Member Alex Martin

We wanted to make a quick shout out to our one and only Alex Martin (Scholar #5, 2012)

After graduating from St. Lawrence University in 2016, Alex continues to work on his dreams. As our board member now and singer/musician, he has been working hard to keep connected to our organization while chasing his dreams. We wanted to express how proud to still have him as an active part of our scholarship program. Alex has released an album and has been performing here in New York.

WELCOME TO THE S.M.B.S. INC.

This scholarship was created in loving memory of Stephanie Marie Burgos, who was once a student who struggled with numerous life and academic difficulties but managed to maintain her love for the fine arts and communication arts. Although her dreams were never fulfilled as we lost her to a tragic car accident in 2005, her dreams live on through this scholarship and those selected to receive it.

The scholarship was developed the year Stephanie was scheduled to graduate from high school in 2008. The talented young people that have been selected to receive this scholarship continue to live Stephanie's dream.

The scholarship is granted for four years to one new candidate annually; who is a senior in good standing, graduating from a New York City Department of Education High School and entering an accredited four year college, with the condition of maintaining contact with the organization & family on their academic progress yearly.
